The top hat on the head of its dapper sibling Spring Lake, an affluent suburb banded with the bright greens of its parks, Spring Lake Heights is a historic town whose old fashioned charm and modern amenities have earned it a reputation all its own. While neighboring Spring Lake was transforming itself into an opulent, Gilded Age resort town, Spring Lake Heights was founded as a part of the Wall Township hinterlands where farmsteaders retreated after making way for beachside hotels and estates. At the end of the 1800s however, the natural beauty of Spring Lake Heights had begun to attract those wealthy vacationers looking for permanent residence in the area they had grown to so love. Perhaps it was the historic Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Heights’ scenic eighteen hole course founded in 1898, which first piqued interest in that enchanted wood above the beach, or maybe it was during fishing trips at the clear Wreck Pond that heads first began to turn in the town’s direction; whatever the cause, by the turn of the century, Spring Lake Heights had a few estates of its own which rivaled those of the beach town below. By 1927, the growing community held a referendum and the residents of Spring Lake Heights voted overwhelming to separate from Wall and form their own borough.
Today, Spring Lake Heights remains a stunning suburb dotted with the splendid architecture of the late nineteenth century.
